PM Modi Inaugurated Andhra Pradesh’s First Greenfield Airport, Launched Projects Worth ₹17,900 Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram to the nation and inaugurated development projects worth ₹17,900 crore in Andhra Pradesh. The airport, located in Vizianagaram district, is the state’s first greenfield airport since the 2014 bifurcation and is expected to improve regional connectivity while supporting economic growth in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Airport Built Under Public-Private Partnership

Developed by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited under a public-private partnership model, the airport has been built at a cost of over ₹25,640 crore and is designed to handle six million passengers annually. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the airport, along with the projects launched on the occasion, reflected Andhra Pradesh’s rapid pace of development. He described the new facility as a key driver of growth and opportunities for the state’s youth.

Semiconductor Project Received Major Push

During the programme, the Prime Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone and unveiled the plaque for ASIP Technologies’ semiconductor manufacturing facility at Tarluvada in Visakhapatnam. The proposed project, with an investment of ₹22,500 crore, is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and support the country’s push towards self-reliance in advanced electronics.

Focus on Infrastructure and Cultural Heritage

Praising the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the Prime Minister said Andhra Pradesh has the potential to emerge as a major growth engine for a developed India. Besides the infrastructure projects, he also inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) at the historic Niranjana Matth in Mysuru, commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the city in 1892.
