ISKCON Ranchi has announced a five-day Shrimad Bhagwat Katha and a grand Shri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsav to mark the divine appearance day of Lord Shri Krishna. The Bhagwat Katha will be held from 30th August to 3rd September 2026, followed by the main Janmashtami celebration on 4th September 2026.
Shrimad Bhagwat Katha from 30th August
The five day Katha will be organised daily from 5 pm to 8 pm and will include Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, devotional kirtan, bhajans and night prasadam for devotees. The Katha will be delivered by Shriman Leela Purushottam Prabhu, Director, IIT Mandi, Bhaktivedanta University and Gurukul, Vrindavan. The organisers said the programme will provide devotees an opportunity to listen to the pastimes of Lord Krishna and learn about his teachings and philosophy.
Main Celebration on 4th September
The main Janmashtami Mahotsav will take place on Friday, 4th September from 4 pm to 12:30 am. Jharkhand Governor Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar will be the Chief Guest. The evening will feature devotional cultural performances, special Janmashtami kirtan, live tableaux depicting the pastimes of Lord Krishna and grand Mahabhishek darshan. Devotees will also be able to swing Shri Shri Radha-Krishna and Laddu Gopal on the jhula. A Vedic exhibition and mela will form part of the celebrations, along with a special 1008 Bhog offering to Lord Krishna. Mahaprasad will be distributed to devotees and visitors after the offering.
Celebration to Bring Devotion and Culture Together
According to ISKCON Ranchi, the celebrations are intended to take the message and teachings of Lord Krishna to a wider section of society. The organisers said the combination of Bhagwat Katha, music, kirtan, cultural programmes and traditional practices would give visitors an opportunity to experience different aspects of Indian spiritual and cultural traditions.
Venue and Public Invitation
The Bhagwat Katha and the main Janmashtami celebrations will be held near Swastik ENT Hospital, opposite DAV Hehal School, Kathal More, Ranchi. ISKCON Ranchi has invited devotees and members of the public to attend the programmes with their families and participate in the Janmashtami celebrations.
