India Created History with Seven Boxing Golds at Commonwealth Games

Indian boxers delivered their finest-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games by winning seven gold medals in Glasgow, marking the country’s highest gold tally in a single sport at the event. The remarkable display also helped India move to fourth place in the medals standings with a total of 38 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and 08 bronze. India also celebrated another gold in para athletics as Bihar’s Soman Rana topped the podium in the F57 shot put event.

Women Led India’s Golden Run in the Ring

India’s women’s boxers dominated the competition, with Preeti Pawar (54kg), Jasmine Lamboria (57kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg) and Arundhati Chaudhary (70kg) winning gold medals in their respective categories. Arundhati defeated England’s Chantelle Reid 5-0 in the final, while Preeti, Jasmine and Sakshi also registered convincing victories by identical 5-0 margins. Priya secured the title after edging Canada’s Mary Bathol Al Ahmadieh 4-1 in a split decision.

Sachin and Ankush Completed Historic Medal Haul

In the men’s competition, Sachin Siwach clinched gold in the 60kg category after defeating Namibia’s Triagen Morning Ndevelo 3-2 in a closely contested final. Having received a one-point penalty in the second round, Sachin produced a decisive final-round performance, landing a powerful punch in the closing moments to seal victory. Ankush Panghal added India’s seventh boxing gold by defeating England’s Dimeji Shittu in the 80kg final. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Jadumani Singh settled for silver medals after finishing runners-up in their respective events.

Soman Rana Added Gold in Para Athletics

India’s successful day extended beyond the boxing ring as Soman Rana of Bihar claimed the gold medal in the men’s F57 shot put event in para athletics. The athlete from Gaya produced a season-best throw of 13.40 metres to secure the top spot. The combined success in boxing and para athletics further strengthened India’s medal campaign and reinforced the country’s growing depth across multiple sporting disciplines at the Commonwealth Games.
