The Chhattisgarh Government has begun the public consultation process for the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), inviting suggestions and opinions from citizens, legal experts, social organisations and other stakeholders. The announcement was made on Tuesday as part of the State’s efforts to prepare a comprehensive legal framework before introducing the legislation.
According to an official statement, the five-member committee constituted to prepare the UCC framework has fixed 15th October as the last date for submitting suggestions. Citizens can send their views through the dedicated online portal, email or by post to the committee’s office in Raipur. The Government said the consultation process aims to ensure wider public participation before the draft law is finalised.

The committee has been tasked with examining the legal, social and administrative implications of implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state. It will also study similar laws introduced in other states and evaluate suggestions received from various stakeholders before preparing a comprehensive draft along with legislative and administrative recommendations.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai had earlier indicated that the proposed Uniform Civil Code would be introduced during the upcoming Winter Session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly. The proposed legislation is expected to regulate matters relating to personal laws, including marriage, divorce, inheritance and live-in relationships. The public consultation marks the next step in the state’s legislative process before the draft is placed before the Assembly.
